Hello again, and welcome back to The Roc Journal.
I want to take you with me through the week leading up to Love Like Liberation — the moments, the conversations, and the little miracles that made it all feel real. This is the first of my release-week journals, and I am starting with a place that has always felt like home to me.
On Saturday, July 11th — one week before the EP dropped — I was a guest on the CJ MGNT Music Radio & Podcast Show, hosted by Norman, DJ Double K, and Trish Love. They run a Live 365 radio station, and their show streams live on Instagram, Facebook, YouTube and more. From the moment I got on, it felt like being welcomed by family.
We talked about Love Like Liberation, and they played Sweet Like Mango, Safe & Sound, Empress Love, and a little bit of They Try. Hearing my own music come back to me through their airwaves — with people who genuinely enjoy it — is a feeling I will never take for granted. I stayed with them through the whole interview, and I stayed for their gospel segment too, where they replayed Safe & Sound. They even let me offer the closing prayer. That moment meant so much to me.
What I love about Norman, DJ Double K, and Trish Love is that they knew me before — back when I was working with another producer. So for them to hear my new work with Dale "Dizzle" Virgo and tell me they can hear the growth, that the music is excellent, that it is fire — that affirmation from people who have watched my journey unfold hit me deep. They make me feel amazing every single time I come through.
The standout moment came when they asked me how I felt about finally getting the EP out. I told them the truth: I had been trying for so long to do a project like this — to get a real body of work into the world — and I am overflowing with joy that it finally happened. Five years of healing, growth, and faith, and here it is.
I am so grateful for spaces like CJ MGNT that hold artists with such love. This is what community sounds like.
