Release Week, Part Seven: Saturday Night Family — KXLU with Junior Francis
Hello again, and welcome back to The Roc Journal.
There are some rooms that feel like home the moment you walk in, and Junior Francis's show on KXLU is one of them.
This was my third time on his renowned reggae show — the one that lights up the airwaves every Saturday night. Three times now, and each one feels like coming back to family. Junior has built something special: a space where reggae is honored, where the music and the story get room to breathe.
We opened talking about my graduation and a little about my research, which meant a lot to me — those two worlds, the scholar and the singer, getting to sit side by side on the air. We also talked about the great Marcia Griffiths and just how awesome she is. Then we played the music.
Junior gave me the chance to talk about my collaborators too, which I always love — none of this happens alone. He played three songs from Love Like Liberation: Safe & Sound, Queen, and Man Down. Hearing them go out over his show, on a Saturday night, to his listeners, meant the world to me.
It was really nice — short and sweet, and a great time. Thank you, Junior Francis, for the love, the platform, and for always making space for me on your airwaves. Here is to many more.

This is what liberation feels like — the music finding its way into the rooms where it is truly loved.
Signing off with much love, Jahmi Roc 🌿
